Privacy Policy
1. Who runs OwlMind
OwlMind is an Android application published by Selektial Software Solutions Pvt Ltd ("we", "us"), Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The app is provided free of charge. You can reach us at sinu@dietowl.in.
2. What data the app processes
2.1 Data you enter, stored only on your device
When you use OwlMind, the app stores the following on your device only:
- Entries you capture (tasks, ideas, decisions, notes) including the original text and AI-generated metadata.
- Tags you create or that the AI proposes.
- Chat threads and messages.
- Generated digests.
- Application settings (provider choice, digest times, theme).
This data is held in a local SQLite database file in OwlMind's private application storage. It is not visible to other apps on your phone, is not synchronized to any cloud, and is not accessible to us.
2.2 Your LLM API key
The API key you enter for your chosen LLM provider is stored in Android Keystore via the flutter_secure_storage library. Keystore-backed keys are encrypted by the Android operating system and cannot be read by other apps. We never transmit, log, or have access to your key.
2.3 Microphone audio (speech-to-text)
When you tap the microphone button to dictate, OwlMind uses Android's built-in SpeechRecognizer service. The audio stream is handled by Android — typically processed locally on supported devices, or via Google's speech services on devices that route it that way. OwlMind does not record, store, or transmit raw audio. Only the resulting transcript is placed in the text input field.
2.4 Notifications
OwlMind uses Android's local notification system to deliver digest reminders, task deadlines, and other in-app alerts. These notifications are scheduled and shown by the operating system on your device. No notification content is sent to us.
3. Data sent to your LLM provider
The core function of OwlMind is to classify, summarize, and let you chat with the data you enter. To do this, the app sends the following directly from your phone to whichever LLM provider you configured (DeepSeek, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini), authenticated with the API key you provided:
- The text you enter when you capture a new entry, so the model can classify it.
- Your chat questions and a bundle of relevant captured entries, so the model can answer.
- A bundle of recent entries when generating your morning or evening digest.
- The text of a message + your list of open tasks when detecting "task completed" phrases.
These requests go from your phone directly to the provider's API endpoint over HTTPS. They do not pass through any server we operate. Your choice of provider therefore determines how that data is handled once it leaves your phone. See each provider's privacy policy:
4. Data we do NOT collect
To be explicit, OwlMind does not collect, store, transmit, or have any access to:
- Personal identifiers (name, email, phone, account info).
- Device identifiers (IDFA, advertising ID, MAC address).
- Location data of any kind.
- Contacts, calendar, photos, files, or any other on-device content beyond what you type into OwlMind itself.
- Analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or usage data.
- Advertising data — there are no ads in the app.
5. Permissions the app requests
INTERNET— to send requests to the LLM provider you choose.POST_NOTIFICATIONS— to deliver digest and task reminders. Requested at runtime on Android 13+.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED— so scheduled notifications survive a device reboot.RECORD_AUDIO— only used while you are actively dictating. Requested at runtime when you first tap the microphone.
6. Children
OwlMind is not directed at children under 13. It is a personal productivity tool aimed at adult users. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone (including children) because we do not collect data at all.
7. Sharing and disclosure
Because we have no servers and do not collect your data, there is nothing for us to share or disclose. The text you submit to your LLM provider is governed by that provider's own terms — your choice of provider is a privacy choice.
8. Export and deletion
You can export your entire OwlMind database as a portable ZIP at any time from Settings → Data → Export. To delete your data, simply uninstall the app — its private storage and Keystore entries are removed by Android. There is nothing on our side to delete because we never had a copy.
9. Security
API keys are stored in Android Keystore, an OS-level hardware-backed secure store on supported devices. All LLM API calls use HTTPS (TLS). The app uses standard Android sandboxing to keep its data from being read by other apps. We do not have access to your data and so cannot suffer a breach of it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy we will update the "Last updated" date above and, when reasonable, notify users via the app or our website. Continued use after a material change constitutes acceptance.
